The return to 1400 metres gave Double Pi the platform to show exactly what she can do.
After running well in defeat over the mile at her previous start, the mare settled within the compact field before moving into fourth and advancing three wide as the race approached the turn.
At the 200-metre mark, Double Pi moved up alongside Banknote Hustler and took the lead. The change was immediate.
She kept extending under pressure and drew clear to secure the fourth victory of her career and another winner for the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman stable.
There was no desperate scramble in the closing stages. Double Pi had made her move, taken command and finished the race on her terms.
Her victory also reflected the judgement involved in bringing her back to 1400 metres after a sound effort over the mile. That kind of placement comes from understanding the horse, reviewing each performance and making the next decision with her best interests in mind.
