Saturday’s meeting at Caulfield unveiled another fillies classic contender with Harlow Gold winning the $80,000 Ladbrokes supports National Jockey Trust Plate (1600m) for three-year-olds.

Trained by David and Ben Hayes, as well as Tom Dabernig, Harlow Gold relished the trip and defeated male opposition with the daughter of Tavistock settling midfield and bursting through the middle of the pack in the straight to win by an ever-widening 1.75 lengths.

Victory in this race last year launched Tarzino towards the Victoria Derby and co-trainer Tom Dabernig said Harlow Gold has the VRC Oaks as her spring goal.

‘This filly is really improving with every run and she looks like she will better over more ground,” Dabernig, who trains Harlow Gold with David and Ben Hayes, said.

‘She relaxed well today and showed a nice turn of foot as well – she’s got bigger things in front of her,

‘She’s by Tavistock and the way she’s racing she’s looking as if she is going get better over ground. She’ll go to the Thousand Guineas next as her short term goal and then we’ll stretch her out to the Oaks.

‘She’s very tough and very talented.”
