Darwin — Hennessy Lad returned to his best form with a strong performance to claim the Bet365 Benchmark 76 (1600m) on Friday’s card.
From barrier four and carrying 55.5kg, Jason Lyon gave the gelding a perfect ride. Settled midfield, Hennessy Lad tracked into the race beautifully before charging over the top of tearaway leaders Awash and Kangaroo Court in the final 400m.
The win highlights the benefit of patience, with the gelding freshened since his last Darwin start. It was a well-timed plan from Gary Clarke and the team, with Lyon executing the tactics to perfection.
