Patriotic King showed real courage in the Ladbrokes Top 2/3/4 Betting Handicap at Darwin, overcoming early pressure and proving too strong in a truly determined performance. He was ridden positively by Jarrod Todd, charging forward from the gates and pushing through to take up the lead after a competitive first 300 metres. Once he crossed and steadied the pace, he travelled beautifully, and when the challenges came turning for home, he simply refused to give in. His toughness at both ends of the race saw him lift again late and score by a convincing margin.
A big congratulations to trainer Gary Clarke, whose team has Patriotic King thriving this preparation. The horse’s confidence and grit were on full display, and Todd’s front-running ride made full use of his strengths on the Darwin track.
His win continued a brilliant day for the ownership group, following Sister Shay’s dominant victory at Wodonga and Supernima’s spirited success under lights at Pakenham. Three winners across three states — a memorable effort from the stable.
