Pounding ramped up his quest for a berth in the All Star Mile with another resounding victory at Sandown on Saturday.

A 1600m specialist, the jointly owned Rosemont Stud – Dalziel Racing gelding continues to prove himself at a high level and could well bypass the public vote and win his way into the $5 million feature if he takes out the Group 2 Blamey Stakes at Flemington.

Beneath the urgings of one of the world’s best jockeys, Jamie Kah, Pounding broke the Sandown track record in destroying his more fancied rivals and thus earning praise from Kah as ‘one of her favourite horses’.

Pounding’s continued success would be a bitter pill for some with the Rosemont-bred horse passed in at the Easter sales at the height of Covid.

In what has become a fortuitous turn of events, Wylie Dalziel then pounced, joining forces again with the Rosemont team, as they did successfully with Group 1 winner Mr Quickie and the rest, as they say is history.
