Sale Cup Win For Pounding

In glorious sunshine a real stable favorite Pounding recorded an impressive win in the Sale Cup.

It’s such an exciting win for our six-year-old son of Exceed And Excel, trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman. This listed win broke an 89-week drought for Pounding.

Race Overview

The Ladbrokes Sale Cup, a Listed race run over 1600 meters with a total prize pool of $200,000 attracted an impressive field. Pounding, who had raced only two days earlier at Moonee Valley, finished beautifully, it was another quality ride from jockey Luke Nolen.

Pounding jumped from barrier 3 on a track that had been upgraded during the day from a 4 to a Good 3. Luke Nolan managed to position Pounding comfortably three pairs back on the rail before making the decisive move to the centre of the track during the final stretch.  Pounding ultimately beat Arran Bay by a half length with Coin Toss another 1.15 lengths back in third place.

Co-trainer Peter Moody shared his delight with Pounding’s performance, explaining despite a challenging preparation with 15 runs this season, Pounding demonstrated class and tenacity. Moody praised the team behind Pounding for the preparation of Pounding.

This win consolidates an impressive record, it now stands at eight wins from 45 starts, with total earnings exceeding $1.33 million. This win is particularly sweet as it marks Poundings first since the Group 3 Carlyon Cup in February 2023.

This win is both a victory for Pounding and a credit to the wonderful team behind our trainers Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman. We appreciate the hard work of the entire crew at Moody Racing.

Moody said Pounding’s status as a “stable stalwart,” emphasizing how much he is loved by the team and ownership group at Wylie Dalziel Racing and Rosemont Stud.

The horse’s journey from failing to meet his reserve prices at the sale to becoming a celebrated winner of over $1.33 million has been a fabulous journey for all involved.

Conclusion

Pounding’s win at the Sale Cup was exciting for all, we really hope he has more wins left in him as he’s been such an exciting horse for all at Dalziel Racing  and Rosemont Stud.
