Catch A Fire, the daughter of Sebring raced 19 times, for three wins – one of which was the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes – and five placings for $248,560 in stakes. Not bad results for a $40,000 purchase out of the Magic Millions sale ring in January 2014.

After a short but successful racing career Catch A Fire was sold for $950,000 as a broodmare through the same sale ring she was purchased in three years earlier.

Purchased at the NZ Karaka Sales Harlow Gold was a 2-time winner and dual Group 1 placed daughter of Tavistock.

The staying mare was placed in the VRC Oaks and Vinery Stakes before retiring with over $430,000 in prizemoney. She was then sold at the 2018 Magic Millions Broodmare sale for $600,000!

The sister to Golden Slipper placegetter Bring Me The Maid (Dalziel racing’s own!), who cost $110,000 at the same yearling sale as Catch A Fire in 2014 and won a Balaklava maiden from 11 starts before being sold at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Broodmare sale for $340,000.

Champion Black Caviar was found by Roy Higgins and Wylie Dalziel when the great mare was only beginning her journey that took her to world champion cult status.

The younger brother of Nelly raced five time for three wins before standing at stud in Victoria.

Moshe is the first yearling purchased by Dalziel Racing to stand at stud.

Bought for now what is a modest $115,000 at the 2017 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Mr Quickie is a dual Group 1 winner, having won the Queensland Derby and Toorak Handicap.

Now a five-year-old, Mr Quickie won the Toorak Handicap during his last campaign and is certain to add to the $1.7 million he has already amassed in his 25 starts -10 wins, five seconds and two thirds.

He was a runner in $5 million All Star Mile at The Valley in March, but bounced back at his next start by winning the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield.

The four-year-old gelding completed his last campaign with four wins in succession.

Since joining Phillip Stokes last January, Ancestry won his maiden at Pakenham and won four races in that first campaign. He doubled his wins during his next campaign which culminated with a victory in the Listed Century Stakes (1000m) at Flemington. With eight wins from 13 starts, he finished third once.

Ancestry was an $80,000 buy at the 2018 Gold Coast yearling sale. Who knows what he’ll do on his return from a spell but is sure to increase his prizemoney of $432,990.

The daughter of popular New Zealand sire Ocean Park was bought as a yearling for $65,000 at the 2016 NZ Karaka Sales.

She won four races and had four seconds and one third from her 20 starts for prizemoney of more than $200,000. Three of her wins were at metropolitan tracks.

She was sold for $80,000 at the 2020 Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale and has since been covered by Prince of Dubai.

The city winning four-year-old is progressing nicely under Phillip Stokes at Pakenham.

Bought at 2018 Karaka Sales in Zealand, the four-year-old’s current prize money is just short of his $115,000 purchase price.

With three wins and three placings from his 12 starts, he is already a city winner and there should be more to come.

A $100,000 buy at the 2017 Karaka yearling sale, Royal Performance has developed into a handy stayer and a real country Cup’s horse having contested the Camperdown, Colac, Edenhope, Horsham, St Arnaud and Donald Cups.

He is a Colac Cup winner and has also been placed in the Camperdown and Horsham Cups.

He has been in the money nine of his 19 starts for $133,525 in prizemoney.

You don’t have to pay a fortune to get a winner and Mr Joobs is a great example of that theory.

Purchased for just $4500 at the 2019 Tasmanian Yearling Sale, the son of Hampton Court has so far had five starts for a win and a second to give the gelding nearly $40,000 in prizemoney. He is the first foal out of Tassie mare Spun Sugar (Hard Spun).
